Mathematics and Language
Mathematics
and language are subject to science, many people think learning languages and
mathematics is quite difficult, requires deep understanding and they are two
contrasting subjects, where mathematics is logic and language are understood
and processing words, however, besides having differences mathematics and
languages also have some similarities.
There are
several differences between studying language and mathematics, first is their
characteristic, studying language isn’t universal because studying language
from one country will be different with another while studying mathematics is
universal where the same formula is used around the world the example is when
studying English language will be different with Bahasa, especially when it
comes to verb tenses in English one verb will be different if used in past or
present times while in Bahasa the use of verb remains the same. Second is how
they are expressing their ideas and their solutions, in mathematics one problem
only solved in one solution based on the related formula or theory, whereas in
language there are a hundred ways to express the same idea, for example, to
calculate the volume of a box is using volume formula only, while the is more
than one word to express happy feeling.
Besides having
differences, language and math also have similarities, first they are required
practices to master them because learning without practicing isn’t enough, the
example is to master speaking skill not only know how to make sentences but
also requires practice. The second is they have a formula, for example; Language
has the formula to make sentences, and mathematics also has a formula for each
problem.
In conclusion,
language and mathematics have several differences as in their characteristics
and how they are expressing the idea, however, they also have similarities as
they are required practices to master them and mathematics and languages have
their formulas.
